That's one of two ways to deal with them, really for larger audiences, the other method i've seen work quite effectively for smaller streamers is just refusing to stream, keeping the stream live, but setting it down, it creates an animosity between the chat and the troll instead of the streamer, thereby minimizing the 'control' and admiration that the troll sought to gain. Of course this won't work on the most dedicated of them but for most it's effective.

how to deal with trolls: Never Ban, you either treat them as insignificant pests, or laugh at their jokes. If you rage, scream , and ban you lose.

it also depends on the type of troll. if it's a paying troll, raging and screaming, even if it's just pretend, is a good way to bait more donos
